The people behind the Bath Beehive community online network hope it will prove as important as the traditional town noticeboard or Post Office window.
It is becoming more and more popular for people who want to publicise forthcoming events - and means they can target a very wide audience.
Co-ordinator Timothy Morgan said: "Groups that have joined the Beehive are using its bulletin board to keep members up-to-date with the latest news and let thousands of local people know about their events.
"One of the great features the Beehive offers is the opportunity to find out what's happening in and around Bath - gone are the days of plastering every telegraph pole with a flyer.
"The bulletin board allows the local community to reach a far greater audience.
"For example, imagine if you wanted to trace the whereabouts of friends from your local school. By placing a message on the Beehive bulletin board you will immediately have the potential of reaching anyone who has access to the internet in the local community and beyond.
"We hope to make the Bath Beehive the centre of our community for keeping abreast of what's going on, much like the old fashioned town notice board, or local shop front window."
