Former lino operator launches website

Dave Hughes, a former Linotype operator for the Yorkshire Evening Press, has launched his own website.

The site is aimed at bringing together people with an interest in the Linotype machine, such as former lino operators, or for people with an interest in letterpress printing or newspaper production.

Dave worked as a Linotype operator for the Yorkshire Evening Press between 1976 and 1980 and the South London Press between 1980 and 1990.

He said: "I was first introduced to the Linotype machine in the mid 1970s when I started work as an apprentice compositor at the Yorkshire Evening Press, then located in Coney Street, York.

"After finishing my apprenticeship I got itchy feet and decided to move to London where I worked at the South London Press.

"My site is basically aimed at old letterpress newspaper compositors and has quite a busy forum."

The site also has a Your Stories section where users of the site write in with their experiences to have them published on the site, and live news feeds provide the site with up-to-date news about journalism, and newspaper and book publishing.
