Weapons poll backs toy sales

The Internet audience of a regional paper has agreed that toy weapons should be available for sale in Suffolk.

The poll, carried out by the Evening Star www.eveningstar.co.uk, found 67 per cent of readers who took part said "yes".

The debate was opened when the Star highlighted concerns by an Ipswich mother about easy access to replica guns and other "realistic weapons" without licensing from a town centre shop.

Cash Exchange, in Norwich Road, defended its business, adding it would welcome legislation to make the job easier and prevent the sale of such weapons to young people.

Suffolk police and the county's trading standards department agreed there was nothing to prevent such stores selling their wares providing they were doing so in a responsible way.

Of the people who took part in the on-line vote, some also sent e-mail messages to the Star to allow freedom to sell.
