More than 300 papers get schools news direct

Schoolsnet.com is syndicating its online content to the 305 regional newspapers owned by Newsquest, one of Schoolsnet's investors.

The site was founded by former Sunday Times news editor Greg Hadfield and former Sunday Telegraph education correspondent Joe Saumarez Smith.

Editors of Newsquest titles are receiving a weekly e-mail newsletter outlining new Schoolsnet content which can be used, free of charge, in their paper.

This content is posted on Newsquest's intranet 'Feature Finder', which can be accessed and downloaded by editors and their teams at any time.

Newsquest invested £3.75m in Schoolsnet in April 2000 for a 15% stake in the company and the partners realise how closely schools are allied with their local newspapers.

Schoolsnet editor-in-chief Greg Hadfield said: "Channelling our online material to Newsquest's stable of titles is a great way of both promoting Schoolsnet's resources across the UK and giving something back to one of our major partners.

"By offering education features, interviews with leading children's authors, and in-depth sports reports, we can promote our online services to schools on a local level, at the same time as providing regular, high-quality copy to Newsquest's editors."

Available copy includes reviews of latest releases and author interviews from the site's children's book team, regular match reports on a range of school sports, including the U16 Schoolsnet Cup, the major national schools football competition and features on current education issues.
