One hundred in the hive

A Devon newspaper is celebrating after its community website notched up a century of participating groups.

The North Devon Journal's Beehive project gives all the community groups in the area a chance to create and maintain their own Internet site.

And now the Harmony Choir has the auspicious honour of being the 100th site to have been created.

The free Beehive is part of the newspaper's This is North Devon website.

The site guides users through the process of setting up a site and maintaining it - and all they need is a computer with Internet access.

The Beehive project was launched in March last year, with the first website created at the end of that month and the 100th built exactly a year later.

David Winter, community projects publishing manager in charge of the project, said: "Congratulations to Harmony - I look forward to seeing the 200th.

"The sooner groups log on to the Beehive, the sooner they can be promoting their organisation to the thousands of people who use the site every day."
