Gazette clock is no wind-up

A town clock last used to count down to the Millennium has been started up again, thanks to the Brentwood Gazette.

The Gazette Clock is being sponsored by the newspaper in partnership with a local authority and Town Centre Partnership.

Editor Roger Watkins said: "Sponsored by the paper that has been reporting local life for generations, the Borough Council and the Town Centre Partnership, it is also a fine example of how by working together, disparate organisations can improve the town.

"Situated, as it is, in the High Street right in the heart of the community, we are sure that it will become a regular meeting place and reminder that working together in partnership benefits the people of Brentwood."

The old Millennium clock was given a facelift before being set going again and was switched on by the town mayor.
