John Holmes, who worked at the Huddersfield Daily Examiner for 34 years, has retired.
Mr Holmes joined the paper in 1960, briefly working as a Linotype operator, producing metal type.
In 1967 he rejoined the paper as a compositor, before becoming a paste-up artist, assembling pages.
During his time with the paper he saw a revolution in newspaper production, with the replacement of "hot metal" type by electronic systems.
To mark his retirement, Mr Holmes was presented with a garden bench, framed photo and a garden centre gift token by the Examiner's pre-press manager Peter Bull and pagination and imaging manager Graham Purnell.
