700 attend editor's funeral

The funeral of George Guthrie, editor of The Falkirk Herald, was attended by some 700 people.

George, 42, died after a four-year battle with cancer.

The Rev Graham Thain paid tribute to George's courage leading up to his death and for his commitment to his family and work.

A book of condolence was signed and a collection to be donated to Beatson Oncology Centre, Glasgow where George was treated, raised £6,000.

After he joined Johnston (Falkirk) Ltd in 1997, George became the editor of The Falkirk Herald.

He was well respected for his newspaper work and also for his role in The Boys' Brigade movement.

George is survived by his wife Fiona and children David (11), Emma (10) and Callum (eight).
