Wedding day reunion 30 years on

A bridegroom's wedding wish has been fulfilled as the Birmingham Evening Mail reunited him with the mother he had not seen for 30 years.

Steven Gibbs, 34, was fostered as a baby and then later adopted and was desperate to trace his birth parents in time for his wedding to Marie Roberts.

The paper printed his story and a friend of his mother's alerted her straight away and the pair were reunited.

Steven, from near Tamworth, stepped up his 15-year search in advance of his wedding. He was given up as a toddler because Margaret, a single mum after her marriage ended, could not look after him.

After the reunion she said: "He looks the same as he did when he was three, except he is now 6ft 5in.

"I had been searching for him myself for about ten years and I prayed that one day this might happen."

Her son was adopted at seven by foster parents Trevor and Sheila Gibbs.
