Death of former Mercury reporter

Former Leicester Mercury journalist Kaye Almey has died at the age of 95.

Born in Northampton, Kaye started her career at the Northampton Evening Chronicle.

After marrying fellow reporter Kenneth Almey, who died in 1954, she moved on to the Mercury where she worked as the women's page editor for 20 years.

Kaye then spent another 20 years on the Leicester Mercury inquiry desk, before retiring in 1990.

Aside from her reporting, Kaye had many interests including that helped form her respected reputation. She helped to found the Leicester Women's Art Club and at the age of 77, Kaye secured an A-level in French.
