'Nothing compares 2 U'

A former reporter at the Evening Echo, who now works for the Press Association in Dublin, is to marry the controversial singer Sinead O'Connor.

The pair met up through a mutual friend and he proposed after a whirlwind four-month romance.

Nick Sommerlad (27) worked in the Echo's Basildon office before moving to the Press Association in December 1999.

He said it was his job that got them together: "I am glad I got into this business otherwise I may never have met her.

"I never thought I would be saying that I'm marrying Sinead O'Connor."
