Media centre set to open

A Lincolnshire college is about to unveil a £600,000 state-of-the-art media centre which will be the largest college-based media department in the country.

The East Coast Media Centre at Grimsby College will offer Advanced Vocational Certificates of Education, A-levels, NVQ, HNDs, and postgraduate courses in newspaper and broadcast journalism.

Facilities include a widescreen cinema, TV studio, editing suite, radio studio, darkroom, lecturing and seminar rooms.

Principal Daniel Khan said: "We are trying to establish ourselves as a national centre of excellence for media which will have a lot of international links."

Seven years ago the college's media department had 40 students and three staff - which has now grown to 500 students and 42 staff.

The new centre is attracting students from Greece, Finland and France.
