Bury Times opens new headquarters

The Bury Times has laid firm foundations for the future with the official opening of its new headquarters.

Bury Mayor Coun Paul Nesbit unveiled a commemorative plaque at the official ceremony, accompanied by senior management from the paper's owners Newsquest.

Staff originally moved into the purpose-built offices on Market Street, adjacent to the paper's previous home, in February.

During the opening, Coun Nesbit told guests: "A lot of councillors sometimes fear the press. But I don't.

"I've always been very friendly with the staff at the Bury Times and our relationship has blossomed as it has gone on."

Jim Brown, chairman of Newsquest, said: "I worked in Lancashire for a number of years and I am all too well aware of the history of the Bury Times and its importance within the local community."

Acknowledging the previous HQ was unsuitable for a modern newspaper, he added: "I am delighted with the opening of the new offices and feel the staff of the Bury Times now have a building they deserve."

Other guests at the official opening included Paul Davidson, chief executive of Newsquest and Tim Blott, regional managing director and Stephen Hughes, the new editor-in-chief of the Bolton Evening News and Bury Times Group.
