Mercury journalist goes bananas

In keeping with the latest trend of reality-TV, Leicester Mercury reporter Jeremy Clay decided to go bananas, and volunteered to spend a day in a monkey cage at Twycross Zoo.

  • Jeremy monkeys around
  • His home for the day was a 10ft by 4ft cage, and with just a kettle, chair, table and radio for company; it was his very own human zoo.

No sooner had he become aquainted with his cage, than a small crowd gathered outside, gawping unashamedly as Jeremy tried to read his paper in peace.

Each crowd would stare for several minutes, before moving on to the next cage and making way for another group of strangers eager to see the latest addition to the zoo.

He said: "Now I know how Guy the Gorilla felt. Not trapped, not imprisoned, just painfully self-conscious."

To find out how Jeremy got on, read his own account here.
