First class exclusive

Isle of Man Newspapers was quick off the mark when it got a tip-off that rock star Dexter Holland was on the island.

The singer from the multi-million selling band The Offspring had been spotted - but his agent denied he was there.

Then someone called to say they'd seen him at the Post Office.

Reporter John Gregory rang the PO, which told him the whole, bizarre, story.

Deputy editor Jo Overty said: "It's not very rock and roll, but apparently Dexter is an avid collector of Manx stamps and had popped over to the Island to add to his collection!

"Using his real name, Bryan, he chatted to PO staff, telling them he was in a band. When they asked if he'd made any records he replied modestly: 'Yeah'.

"A postman appeared to recognise him but staff only suspected his true identity when they asked where he was playing and he said the Milton Keynes Bowl."

John put another call in to Dexter's PR people - who confessed that Dexter was indeed an avid collector of Manx stamps.

Jo added: "Of course, it was a first-class exclusive!"
