Readers of the Evening Gazette have voted overwhelmingly against a new experimental traffic system in Middlesbrough.
The paper asked readers if they thought the trial, which involved the pedestrianisation of a street in Middlesbrough town centre, had been a success.
It had been brought in to ease traffic congestion through the town centre and improve the flow of buses.
But the result of the poll was overwhelming with 91.4 per cent of people agreeing that the experiment had been a bad idea.
Les Southerton, who helped devise the experiment, said: "We are grateful to the Evening Gazette for carrying out this survey, the results of which will be fed into the pool of information collected throughout this experiment."
"We have, however, carried out independent research."
