Young reporters at a Coventry primary school have helped make a pioneering news project a huge success.
Eight and nine-year-olds from Courthouse Green School in Coventry took part in a 12-week after-school club and produced a front and back page for the Evening Telegraph.
Pupils studied copies of the paper, conducted interviews and wrote reports, and also completed assignments for the Evening Telegraph's Reading Passport, a pocket-sized booklet of activities based on newspapers.
The project was run in conjunction with the Newspapers in Education scheme and was the first of its kind as part of the city's Education Action Zone programme.
One thousand newspapers were delivered to the school at the end of the project, where parents and pupils received copies at a special assembly.
Teacher Helen Ruffles said: "It's been excellent. I think the papers are wonderful.
"It certainly hasn't been easy but the children have got an awful lot out of it.
"They are able to see their work translated into a professional product. It shows that what they have done is valued."
