Regional input to boost entertainment website

Input from local newspapers could prove a key difference to a new showbiz website from Trinity Mirror.

icShowbiz.com will take information, news and reviews from Trinity's 174 regional and national titles to boost the content of the site - and make it relevant nationwide.

Trinity Mirror Digital, a division of Trinity Mirror, which publishes the Liverpool Echo, Birmingham Post and Mail and the Coventry Evening Telegraph, has already launched the new site.

It is hoped icShowbiz.com's own team of journalists will be breaking stories for use on the site and in the papers.

icShowbiz.com aims to give the story behind the story from the worlds of music, film, video, TV and radio and users will be able to access their own local showbiz news and gossip.

Archive material from all the newspapers will be used and the company has signed agreements with the freelances who supply copy to the regional papers to enable this to be used too.

"We've got the latest celebrity news and gossip, plus all you need to know about what's going on in film, music and TV - no other UK web site can beat the breadth, depth, fun and variety that icShowbiz.com has," said Rebecca St Johnston, Managing Director of Content at Trinity Mirror Digital.

A hard-hitting marketing campaign is planned to promote the new site. A TV advert will appear throughout January and will features four different showbiz scenarios.

The ad will give viewers the power of x-ray vision to reveal a celebrity secret. In one scene a glamorous actress arrives at a film premiere in a gorgeous dress with a plunging neckline, but x-ray vision shows she has breast implants.

A widespread print campaign is also planned and will be heavily targeted at women's consumer titles.
