A new on-line shopping mall has been set up by Westcountry Publications, the publishing company for the Evening Herald.
www.plymouthshopping.co.uk is based in Plymouth but directs shoppers all over the country for their goods.
The idea is not just to help people in Plymouth and the surrounding area shop from home, but to open up the products from south-west shops to customers around the world.
Twenty firms have already gone on-board with the new idea and had their own Internet pages designed and created by Westcountry Publications.
WCP managing director Andy Gough said that the concept of a local website linked to the city's newspaper provided an innovative solution for shopping online.
Customers can access the site directly, or through the newspaper website www.thisisplymouth.co.uk.
Launching the venture, he said: "People can now embrace the technology of the Internet but still buy goods from local people they trust.
"And for businesses, they have a site easily accessed globally on the world wide web from which to sell their products."
Work behind the scenes for the website has been going on for six months and once firms sign up they receive full training on how to maintain their site.
