Court ruling on hyperlinks

A court in Rotterdam has made a ruling that has major implications for web copyright around the world.

Dutch newspaper publisher PCM lost its case against online news service Kranten.com which hade been providing links to the main stories on its newspaper sites.

PCM argued that this practice bypassed the front pages, which brought most advertisingrevenue. But, the court rejected PCM's claim, and backed Kranten'sargument that hyperlinks formed the basis of the internet.
