Merry Christmas, from the Gazette

Christmas came early in Brentwood, thanks to the town's Gazette newspaper series which has donated £2,000 to buy an electric shopping buggy.

The cash came from the Millennium Fund, set up by the Gazette's sister paper the Essex Chronicle, to raise funds in association with Essex Community Foundation.

The buggy was handed over by editor Roger Watkins to former Mayoress Sue Higgins - an arthritis sufferer.

The buggy joins a seven-strong Shopmobility fleet which enable people of all ages with mobility problems to shop independently on the local streets.
