Lookalike fun in Spalding

For some people their face is their fortune. For others it's a meal ticket - and some just need punching.

But readers of the Spalding Guardian have been treated to some lookalikes of the rich and famous on their pages.

The bi-weekly, which runs in tandem with the Lincolnshire Free Press, ran previews of contestants for the hotly-contested Donington Festival 2000 lookalike competition.

The paper tucked away this gem on page 34 but HoldTheFrontPage asked for permission to run through the cast list once more.

We've given you a few clues to help you decide who's who. Answers are at the bottom of the story.

1. A famous funny man

2. Shame he's had a hair cut

3. A singer - but not Meatloaf, as someone suggested

4. Another singing star, one of a group

5. The apron is a clue

6. Another big clue is in her clothes

Deputy news editor Martin Simpson said: "The festival was organised to mark the Millennium and took place this weekend. We were involved in publicising it.

"The lookalike contestants have been getting in touch with us direct and sent their photos in.

"There's been a good response to the feature and it's been a useful exercise - because for those who come from our area we are, of course, looking to do follow-ups on them."

This week's Guardian is carrying a comprehensive festival report and picture spread - with more portraits of the famous faces, who met up with a professional lookalike, Sue Bradbury, who really IS the double of Joanna Lumley’s Patsy from Absolutely Fabulous.

It informed readers who couldn't make it to the Festival that the winner was Julia Farmer, of Pinchbeck, (No. 6, above) who won the services of an agency to market her resemblance to the comedienne ...Dawn French.

If you are still stuck on the rest of them, the answers are:
1. Vic Reeves
2. David Beckham
3. Sting
4. Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees
5. Jane Asher
