Horn-blowing columnist dies

An eccentric huntsman, whose columns on the sport entertained newspaper readers in Birmingham, has died at the age of 92.

John Morrison's enthusiastic reports on the exploits of the Albrighton Wood Hunt in the 1960s featured regularly in the Evening Mail and the Birmingham Post under the nom de plume of Loppylugs.

A chartered accountant, Mr Morrison was a lifelong fan of Worcestershire County Cricket Club and could be heard at New Road sounding his 18th-century hunting horn when his team was doing well.

The Evening Mail reported that in later years, he took to shouting his support after a band of angry supporters at a one-day match at Lord's seized the horn and stamped on it.
