Horror writer headlines newspaper's online festival

An internationally-renowned horror writer is to take part in what is believed to be the first online literary festival organised by a UK newspaper.

Wirral-based author Ramsey Campbell will be one of the star names featured in LiveRead, being organised next month by the Liverpool Daily Post.

The festival, which will take place entirely online, is designed as a celebration of Liverpool writers and writing – both amateur and professional.

Visitors to the LiveRead site during the festival will also be invited to vote for Liverpool's favourite book, while readers will get the chance to submit their own short stories.

Campbell, whose work inspired Stephen King, will be taking part in a live online interview – answering readers’ questions on his books, the writing process and his own reading habits.

He said: "I'm delighted to be involved with the Daily Post's LiveRead festival. It was always my morning paper, since I've lived here all my life.

"I've been setting tales of terror in contemporary Liverpool for 45 years now, and I look forward to the feedback from readers."

Other events include a live discussion hosted by former Post editor turned best-selling author Jane Costello about what it takes to get published, while Wirral-based literary agents Bubblecow will run a week-long surgery for amateur writers.

There will also be a serialised story, which unravels according to readers' votes, and a live book group focusing on novels by playwright Willy Russell and five-time Booker Prize nominee Beryl Bainbridge.

Post site here

I doubt even Ramsey Campbell could write a more chilling horror story than the Post's latest ABC slump.
