Trinity Mirror is set to roll out the second phase of its mobile phone news service.

Thirteen m-sites were launched during the second half of 2008 and now the publisher is set to add user-generated content, a ringtones download centre and wallpapers to its service. Video may also be added in due course.

The m-sites have been promoted through Trinity Mirror's own print and web titles as it seeks to integrate them into its multimedia portfolio.

The first BBC North Director Peter Salmon will be the guest speaker at April's How-Do Awards.

Peter takes up the post this summer and will be responsible for the operations of five national BBC departments and other regional activities.

The How-Do Awards celebrate the best of the North West's media and include prizes for best daily and weekly newspapers.

Up to 70 journalists could lose their jobs at Trinity Mirror's Glasgow-based newspapers.

The affected titles include the Glaswegian, Business7, Daily Record, Sunday Mail and afternoon freesheet Record PM.

Editorial operations will be integrated with Daily Record editor Bruce Waddell becoming editor-in-chief. A 30-day consultation period is now under way with staff.

The 45th annual wildlife photographer of the year competition is now open for entries.

There are 17 categories covering a whole range of wildlife photography with a £10,000 prize on offer for the overall winner and £1,000 for category winners.

Award will be presented at a ceremony at the Natural History Museum in London in October.

Former Irish News journalist Chris McCann has launched a new magazine called Oak Leaf.

The monthly title is dedicated to covering Gaelic games in the County Derry area of Northern Ireland.

Chris was until recently director of sports at the County Derry Post and the Derry News.
