More exclusive football news and a cleaner look are being promised in the new-look Liverpool Echo which is due in the shops of the north-west city today.

The Trinity Mirror daily will feature a new masthead along with new sections for education, health and women.

Editor Alistair Machray said on the Echo's website: "The paper will have even more exclusive football content along with a cleaner, easier to read layout, a new design, refreshing new use of colour and tons more local and community news."

He added the paper had been canvassing readers' opinions to make sure the relaunched title carried more of what they were looking for.

In a separate development, some of Trinity Mirror's regional dailies have gone live with their own companion mobile phone news and sport websites.

The company first announced in July that it planned to rollout the mobile sites for 12 daily newspapers along with the Daily Mirror and Daily Record.

Post Mobile – by the Birmingham Post – went live on Thursday. Sites for the Middlesbrough-based Evening Gazette and Newcastle dailies The Journal and Evening Chronicle were due to go live today.

Mobile sites for the Liverpool Post and Echo, Huddersfield Daily Examiner, Daily Post in North Wales, Cardiff dailies the Western Mail and South Wales Echo are to go live next month.

Finishing off the launch are the Birmingham Post and Coventry Telegraph in December.
