More redundancies could be on the cards at Johnston Press' Anglia Newspapers division.

On Wednesday HoldtheFront Page reported that David Hart, editor of the Suffolk-based weekly the Haverhill Echo, had been given notice of possible redundancy and was engaged in consultation with management, likely to end mid-September.

It has emerged that David is one of five people whose roles could be made redundant at Anglia Newspapers' weekly titles.

Also under threat are a member of the production team, an advertising representative and two artists who make up adverts.

Sources at Anglia Newspapers told HoldtheFrontPage that the two artists' positions are being downsized into one, with both staff invited to reapply for the job.

Recently, Suffolk Free Press editor Mark Crossley left the company and has not been replaced, meaning the paper now shares an editor with the Newmarket Journal, Phil Minett.

This latest news comes in what is already a troublesome period for Johnston Press across the UK.

Earlier this week the company confirmed plans to shut a printing unit in Northampton and move two of its evening papers to overnight production, placing 70 printing jobs at risk.

And next Wednesday the National Union of Journalists' chapel at Sheffield Newspapers is holding a meeting to discuss planned redundancies and the possible closure of two district offices.
