Future in doubt for weekly newspaper

The future of a free weekly newspaper is in doubt after management admitted it was currently under review.

The Harlow Citizen, part of Newsquest North and East London, has been in operation since the 1950s when it was originally known as the Gazette.

No jobs are under threat at the paper, which is produced from the company's Epping Office, because the same editorial team also produces the Bishop Stortford Citizen and contributes to the company's Epping Forest Guardian and Epping Forest Independent.

Group editorial manager Margaret Strayton confirmed the title was under review but the outcome of this would not be known for a few weeks as many senior managers were on annual leave.

She added that no jobs were under threat at the Epping office.

The Harlow Citizen, which has a five-strong editorial team, has an audited distribution figure of 28,842.
