Midlands shake-up affecting 34 jobs to go ahead

Central Counties Newspapers has confirmed plans to reorganise its company structure in the Midlands in a move affecting 34 staff.

Last month the company announced plans to "reorganise some of its editorial, sales and administrative duties at some of its centres", and said it might be looking for voluntary redundancies.

Today the Aylesbury-based company confirmed the proposals would go ahead after a staff consultation but refused to say how many jobs would be lost or whether anyone would move elsewhere within the company.

CCN managing director Keith Ridley said: "Consultation over the business restructure at Central Counties Newspapers is now complete and affected individuals have been notified and supported throughout the process. We wish them well in the future."

Johnston Press-owned CCN publishes 18 weekly newspapers and seven websites including the Bucks Herald and Banbury Guardian.

In a statement issued last month, Mr Ridley said: "These proposals have been announced as part of the company's continual review of business efficiency.

"In the event they go ahead, we will try to minimise the impact through voluntary redundancy and redeployment to alternative positions."

This is ridiculous. CCN are stripping back staff to untolerable levels for those who remain. They are cutting back staff yet spending thousands on new editing suites at centres - forgetting there's no staff to actually use the things! Either close the paper or stop asset-stripping, CCN.
