Journalists interested in working in Germany can now apply for a special bursary scheme.

The George Weidenfeld Bursary offers two, six and 13-week stints with a German media organisation for British journalists, aged 23 to 39-years-old.

Applications should have an interest in Germany and preferably a command of the language but tuition can be offered.

Regional newspaper publisher Johnston Press has appointed Gavin Patterson to its board of directors as non-executive director.

Gavin is a director of BT Group plc and is chief executive of BT Retail.

Prior to BT, Gavin was managing director consumer division at Telewest Communications plc.

He started his career with Procter and Gamble where he spent nine years in various marketing roles.

Former Liverpool Echo journalist Brian Reade has penned a book about the red half of the city's football scene.

The Daily Mirror columnist is a life-long Liverpool FC fan and his new book 43 Years With The Same Bird covers his love affair with the Reds.

He covered the club while working for the Echo and sister title the Daily Post.

Journalism training centre PMA is holding a reunion to celebrate 20 years of its postgraduate magazine diploma.

PMA wants to trace all former students, thought to be around 400 people, as well as tutors, editors' panel members and pupils from the course PMA ran for Emap, in Peterborough.

The party is being held on September 5 on the banks of the River Thames, at Millbank.
