It's all change at The Herald in Glasgow with four staff moving on to pastures new.

Political editor Douglas Fraser is joining BBC Scotland as its business and economics editor while reporter David Leask is joining Scotland on Sunday.

Sub-editor Chris Graham is bound for the South China Morning Post – an English-language newspaper based in Hong Kong.

And finally, The Herald's longest-serving reporter Alan MacDermid has left after 38 years service but plans to continue writing and doing PR work.

The biggest movers and shakers in north-east England have been listed in an annual supplement by The Journal.

Trinity Mirror's Newcastle-based morning has written about the great and the good for its pull-out 500 of the Most Influential People in the North East.

It features biographies of key individuals shaping the region and naturally includes both Journal editor Brian Aitken and Paul Robertson, chief of sister-title the Evening Chronicle and TM's editorial director for the north east.

Other editors included are Peter Barron, of The Northern Echo, and Darren Thwaites, from Middlesbrough's Evening Gazette.

Jon Ratcliffe, north west media manager for British Transport Police, has died after a short illness.

Several north-west newspapers including the Chester Chronicle and Chester Standard have carried tributes. Before joining the BTP he was a press officer with Cheshire Police.

The Campaign for Freedom of Information is hosting two half-day courses later this month on the 'Information Commissioner and Tribunal Decisions'.

They are in London on July 21 and Birmingham on July 24. It is aimed at those with a good working knowledge of the legislation and will highlight key developments.

Adrian Filby is the new commercial director at Celtic Football Club.

Adrian joins the Glasgow football giant from Trinity Mirror where he was sponsorship and events director.

The move won't be completely unfamiliar for the 38-year-old as he was the club's special projects manager six years ago.
