Running reporter swaps the oche for the highway

A weekly reporter has swapped his beloved darts for a pair of running shoes to raise money for a lifeboats charity.

Craig Taylor, a reporter with Orkney Today and president of a local darts league, will be doing the 12-mile Bisgeos Run next month.

He is hoping to raise £500 for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution which operates three lifeboats in the Orkney area.

Craig, 35, said: "In an effort to get fit again this summer I am once again doing a charity run, with banana and apples replacing Mars Bars, crisps and cans of Coke on my desk.

"I have even managed to go without my regular pints of lager for a month to get in shape for the run which means the darts have been gathering dust at home.

"I'm very much someone who just turns up and tries to just get round, but anything under two hours would be great."

In the past two years, Craig has run two half marathons to raise money for charities - firstly for the Orkney Kidney Patients Association and then the Multiple Sclerosis Society, in Orkney, raising over £500 for both charities.

Craig has set up an online fundraising page to collect donations.
