Mail dedicates entire edition to Tigers play-off victory

The Tigers' promotion into the top flight of English football was covered from every angle by the Hull Daily Mail.

The Mail dedicated an entire edition to Hull City FC, following the team's historic win, to the Wembley play-off final.

Even before Saturday's game the Mail pulled out all the stops to aim for unrivalled coverage for readers.

The Mail claims it was the first to broadcast the team line-up ahead of the Wembley clash - to mobile subscribers - and its website was constantly updated with all the latest news and information.

On the day a team of reporters travelled with fans recording their hopes and dreams in words and on video before the game.

During the match more video was recorded in the stadium of the incredible scenes when local hero Dean Windass scored the winning goal.

Then, as the promotion party began, the Mail continued to provide full coverage in print, and with constant web updates - and published eight videos on thisishull.co.uk

Bank Holiday Monday saw more than 100,000 Tigers fans take to the streets of the city to cheer the team during the open-top bus parade and reception in the city centre.

Again the Mail offered blanket coverage with web updates, video and a second souvenir edition in two days.

Editor John Meehan said: "From the outset we were determined to provide the very best possible coverage of this historic event.

"The Mail prides itself on being 'at the heart of all things local' and our superb multimedia approach was a testament to how far we have come in this respect.

"Carrying the stories of the day and the celebrations following it were well received by readers around the world who were able to interact with us and therefore with the city of Hull."
