Reporter's dying mission backed by sister newspaper titles across the UK

Trinity Mirror titles across the country are uniting by featuring brave journalist Adrian Sudbury as he continues to fight leukaemia.

Adrian, digital journalist with Trinity Mirror title The Huddersfield Daily Examiner, revealed last week how is losing his battle with the disease.

Now, most of the company's regional newspapers are planning to carry a first-person piece written by the stricken reporter.

In his latest entry on his Baldy's blog, Adrian has appealed for people to sign the bone marrow donor register.

He has also posted a video of someone donating bone marrow in a bid to dispel some of the negative myths surrounding the process and what it entails for donors.

Adrian said: "I'm determined to try and educate more people about what it is like to be a bone marrow donor.

"The problem is people think it is some horrific procedure and I want to show as many people as possible that it is not like that.

"Apparently, the Germans have one of the world's best marrow registers.

"All they do is educate their sixth form students about why it's important to donate blood, bone marrow and how you do it. Why can't we do that here?"

Daily Examiner news editor Neil Atkinson said: "It's remarkable that he's so upbeat.

"I wrote something on Wednesday and sent it to him to check and see if he wanted to add anything.

"When he sent it back, he said 'That's great stuff'. It's unbelievable. A few people here have said they would be a gibbering wreck in the same position.

"How he has approached it over the past 18 months has been amazing.

"We're doing a double page spread about the bone marrow donor register.

"No doubt we will do some more stuff this week and we're backing his campaign to raise awareness."

Daily Examiner editor Roy Wright said: "Adrian is a remarkable young man – a nice bloke who is genuinely philosophical about his fate.

"He is keen to use his last few weeks to highlight the shortage of barrow marrow donors.

"He is becoming high profile and I suspect will become even bigger in the next few weeks."

More information about bone marrow donation can be found on the National Blood Service website.
