Huddersfield Daily Examiner journalist Adrian Sudbury has suffered a serious setback in his battle against leukaemia.
Doctors have told the 26-year-old that leukaemia cells have formed in the new bone marrow which he received via a transplant a year ago.
Now the web journalist is facing more tests this week as doctors take an emergency bone marrow sample to see if there has been a major relapse of the disease. If so, the most likely path is further chemotherapy.
Adrian said: "I thought nothing could shock me after everything I have been through in the last 18 months.
"Then I finally got the news from my most recent bone marrow sample.
"The cells at a molecular level are showing multiple and complex genetic abnormalities. The bone marrow transplant has effectively failed.
"I could see from my medical team that they were really surprised by the results too."
Adrian was a reporter for both the Huddersfield Express and Chronicle Series and the Daily Examiner before become a digital journalist in November 2006.
Just two days into the job he turned seriously ill and doctors eventually diagnosed leukaemia – but with two distinct types of the disease running at the same time.
According to medical literature he is the only person in the world to have this condition.
Through Baldy's Blog, he has told the world of his constant pain, the terrible side effects of the disease and his medication as well as the sad break up with his fiancée.
Last year he was award both the international Weblog Award for best medical or health issue and the Guild of Health Writers Best Online Feature Award.
