Key daily newspapers link up for new business web portal

Key daily newspapers in the East Midlands are working together to publish a new regional business website.

The Evening Telegraph in Derby, Leicester Mercury, Lincolnshire Echo, Nottingham Evening Post and The Sentinel in Stoke will supply business stories from their patch. Northamptonshire is also being covered.

The new site, thisisbusiness-eastmidlands.co.uk will pool every business story by the Northcliffe titles in a bid to give the full picture across the East Midlands as a whole.

Northcliffe Midlands managing director Alex Leys said: "Thisisbusiness-eastmidlands has the opportunity to become the reflector of commercial activity on a daily basis to a worldwide online audience.

"Allying thisisbusiness to the pages of the daily titles in the region will create a new springboard for everyone who has the ambition of the East Midlands at heart."

Regional editorial director Malcolm Pheby said: "The inventiveness of the commercial population is a source of continuous admiration.

"That said, the East Midlands has been unable, for whatever reason, to demonstrate this reservoir of skill sufficiently well to a European or world audience.

"I think one of the reasons may be that nothing has existed until now that can truly draw together and reflect the thrilling diversity of industry, commerce and entrepreneurship of our region."

The site has received pre-launch commercial backing from organisations including the East Midlands Development Agency, East Midlands Universities Association and Nelsons Solicitors.

Users will be able to read stories by region and there will be a special section for commercial property stories. As well as featuring the companies making the headlines on a daily basis, the site will also provide the latest breaking East Midlands business news stories.

In addition, there will be a national and international business news section, with regular updates and breaking news. Users will also have the option to search for specific stories by sector.

Users who register with the site can access business reports, which will help give them a detailed statistical insight into the region's economic performance and industries.

Through links with sister website thisismoney.co.uk, the site also delivers a raft of key financial and business information form the City, along with useful business guides.
