Echo reporter plans to ride his way to the end of the land

A newspaper reporter is preparing for a bout of saddle sores and stiff knees as he re-runs a 300-mile charity bike ride a decade after his original adventure.

Will Carson, from the Southern Daily Echo in Southampton, is teaming up again with seven friends and two of his former school teachers to cycle from Lymington to Land's End.

Some of the team are even travelling back from France and the Caribbean to take part.

The three-day trip will cover approximately 300 miles and hopefully raise hundreds of pounds for a local adventure charity.

Will said: "We were reminiscing about our school days and the first Land's End trip we did.

"All of us were shocked at how long ago it was and, in a moment of madness, we thought it would be great to have another crack at it so here we are.

"We're all a lot older, a bit heavier and not quite as agile as we were ten years ago but we're set on completing the trip."

  • As part of their training, the team is hoping to run the Lymington 10K race next month before embarking on the bike trip on May 23.

The challenge has already generated a lot of local support with local companies donating £400 along with food and drinks.

All cash raised from the bike ride will go to the charity Jubilee Sailing Trust which runs adventure sailing trips for able-bodied and disabled people.
