The award, named in honour of the transatlantic journalist and commentator, is offered for a masters in journalism or for specialist study leading to or contributing to a career in journalism at any accredited US university.

The award covers up to $40,000 for the first year of study, as well as health insurance, university application and entrance exam fees, and visa processing fees.

Applicants must be UK citizens. EU citizens normally resident in the UK are encouraged to apply through their country of citizenship. Those who hold or who are eligible to hold US citizenship, or who are resident in the US at the time of application, may not apply.

Applicants must also hold, or expect to obtain prior to departing, a minimum 2:1 undergraduate honours degree from a UK university.
