Newspaper house highlights recycling issues

A new website dedicated to business in the West Country is to be launched by some of the region's Northcliffe papers. westbusiness.co.uk will feature news and analysis from a region estimated to contain 21,000 limited companies.
Resources will be pooled from the Bath Chronicle, Western Daily Press, Bristol Evening Post and Gloucestershire titles The Citizen and The Echo.


Around 120,000 free sheets handed out across the capital have been put into a "newspaper house". The wooden structure, built by artist Sumer Erek, was created in Gillet Square, Hackney.
The newspapers were fitted into the wooden shell, which stands 12ft tall, to highlight the need for recycling. Train companies donated about two tonnes of newspapers left by commuters.


Derry Journal reporter Claire Allan is celebrating after the paperback edition of her debut novel went into the Irish charts at number six. Rainy Days and Tuesdays tells the story of a working mother juggling life as a magazine journalist with parental responsibilities.
The book peaked at number nine in the bestseller chart when it was first published last summer. Her second novel is due out in September.


The National Union of Journalists Parliamentary Group is taking up the campaign to designate the Press Complaints Commission as a public authority for the purposes of the Freedom of Information Act. There are plans to extend the range of organisations covered by the Act and both the NUJ and the Campaign for Press and Broadcasting Freedom want the PCC to be included.


Former Scottish journalist Alan Fielding has died aged 81. During his career he worked as chief features sub-editor at The Herald, in Glasgow, and features editor at the Scottish Daily Express. He started his journalism career with the Daily Sketch.
