Post's new-look website finally goes live

After months of reader feedback and focus groups the Birmingham Post's new-look website goes live today.

The launch coincides with celebrations to mark the 150th anniversary of the Post.

Trinity Mirror says it represents a move to a 'web-first' publishing strategy for the morning title, with live breaking news throughout the day coupled with comment and analysis from the paper's specialist correspondents and outside bloggers.

The new-look site has been organised into specific business sectors, allowing users to find and concentrate on content relevant to them.

Each of these sectors, covering topics such as banking and the automotive industry, has dedicated bloggers, forums and e-mail newsletters.

Editor Marc Reeves said: "We are all really pleased with the look and feel of the website as it enhances the value of what we already offer via the paper.

"One of the many developments I am particularly proud of is our panel of expert bloggers who will be commenting on a diverse array of subjects.

"Without doubt this stands as a highbrow development in terms of user-generated content and user-interaction.

"This year marks the 150-year anniversary of our long and rich history so what better way to also signify the start of a new and exciting era for us."

Bloggers have been recruited to comment on issues and topics including the arts, industry and sport.

The city's online blogging community was integral to the development of the site and were consulted from the day the planned launch was announced.

The site also sees the start of Post People online which features snapshots from events around the city as well as a calendar of key business dates.

The Birmingham Post is the latest Trinity Mirror title to undergo an internet makeover after successful projects on its south Wales, Newcastle and Liverpool titles among others.
