The Press in York was off-stone at 4am to go on sale alongside the nationals and other regional dailies that missed the news through deadline constraints.
After first breaking the news at 1.29am, following a flood of calls from readers, staff were called in to update the paper.
Editor Kevin Booth said: "I got my head of content, chief reporter, assistant chief sub-editor and myself back into the office to redo our splash and a double-page spread for today’s paper.
"We went off-stone at about 4am and were on the newsstands alongside the nationals and other regional dailies, all of whom had missed the story because of their deadlines."
