Newsroom's earthquake omen confirms time of tremor

The newsroom clock at the Grantham Journal smashed to the floor when the big tremor struck yesterday - and stopped at the exact time of the quake, 12.57am.

Staff discovered the portentous damage when they arrived at work to update the Journal's website with reports from all over the area.

The Journal, which covers south Lincolnshire, managed to get early news of the earthquake on its website www.granthamjournal.co.uk at 1.30am.

Elsewhere, the Journal's stablemates in Lincolnshire Newspapers were receiving massive website traffic - in particular Market Rasen, named globally as the epicentre of the quake.

Good, thorough reactive stuff. The clock definitely looks shaken by the whole experience!
