Post website attracts almost 2,000 quake-hungry visitors between 1am and 2am

Visitors from around the world went online to the Nottingham Evening Post's website to find out about this morning's earthquake within minutes of the tremors.

Staff had put the breaking news on the website by 1.25am - within 30 minutes of the tremor - and were rewarded with a huge number of hits.

thisisnottingham.co.uk had 1,821 visitors between 1am and 2am, and hundreds more logged on as the morning went on.

News editor Steven Fletcher said: "Readers were desperate to leave their comments after that facility opened at 6am.

"By 9am we had more than 60 comments, and we'd had 20,000 page views and 6,000 visitors. It's shaping up to be our record day for web performance.

"Because the epicentre was so near to Nottingham, people were logging on from as far away as Singapore, the United Arab Emirates and Taiwan."

Wonder how many comments you'd have had if you hadn't waited until 6am to switch on that facility?

Hi, is an "r" missing from the word 'attacts' in the headline? A fit case for funnies section, I believe.
