10,000-circulation Midlands launch for Trinity Mirror's regionals division

A new free weekly newspaper has been launched in the Midlands by Trinity Mirror.

The Daventry Post will be delivered to around 10,000 homes every Thursday in Daventry and its surrounding villages.

It will go up against Johnston Press title the Daventry Express.

The first issue, out yesterday, has 92 pages including a 28 page property section.

It also has its own dedicated website, part of icnorthants, which will be updated on a daily basis.

Over the past four years, Trinity Mirror has launched new weekly newspapers in Kenilworth, Warwick, Leamington and Rugby, as well as rebranding and relaunching Coventry's free weekly newspaper The Coventry Times.

Richard Howarth, series editor of the East of England titles who is responsible for the launch, said: "It is very much a Daventry newspaper.

"We're determined from the start to fill the paper with very local news only.

"The general opinion, from businesses and the local authority, is that it's great to see a new newspaper in the town."

Tony Lennox, editorial director of Trinity Mirror Midlands portfolio of weekly newspapers, said: "Daventry sits geographically between Rugby and Northampton where we already publish thriving local free weeklies.

"It was a logical decision to fill that gap with a new newspaper."

Debbie Davies, the advertising director responsible for the launches, said: "Commercially the Daventry Post provides opportunities to advertisers in east Warwickshire and west Northamptonshire to access a new and affluent readership."
