Journalists at the Shropshire Star are hoping to re-establish an annual ball.
The Shropshire Press Ball, organised by the local National Union of Journalists branch, was held in the county for many years.
However, it was forced to stop when the branch disbanded in the 1980s.
The branch reformed in 2004 and is now putting on its first press ball next month for local media, businesses and general public.
The evening will include a meal, disco and after-dinner speaker with local businesses already backing the event by donating raffle prizes.
Organisers are also hoping to use the ball as a recruitment drive for the Shropshire NUJ branch and, if successful, it will become an annual event.
