Long-serving Advertiser man steps down after 31 years as editor

The longest serving editor of the Cardigan-based Tivy-Side Advertiser has retired after 31 years in the post.

Aneurin Evans, who began his career in journalism as a cub reporter with the Advertiser in 1969, saw the paper through major technological changes including the introduction of computer-based publishing and the switch from broadsheet to colour tabloid.

When he joined the paper nearly 40 years ago it was owned locally by the Braham family and printed on a hot metal press at the rear of its Cardigan offices. Today the Tivy-Side is part of the global Gannett media empire.

Originally from North Pembrokeshire, Nye, as he was known, stayed true to his roots and took a special interest in increasing the amount of Welsh in the paper.

A party was held last December to celebrate his 30 years as editor.

He said: "It has been a privilege to edit the Tivy-Side and I would like to take this opportunity to thank colleagues, contributors, advertisers and readers for their loyal support."

Tivy-Side publisher Peter John paid tribute to Nye's "steadfast service" to the paper.

"Nye's career is quite remarkable and something he should be very proud of.

"He not only served more than 30 years as editor, he did so with great distinction and led the paper through a series of fundamental changes."

Nye's successor is his deputy of the past 13 years, Sue Lewis, the first woman editor in the paper's 141-year history.
