Staff at The Press in York have overwhelmingly rejected a pay offer from Newsquest management.
Nineteen National Union of Journalists members, all editorial staff, held a meeting yesterday afternoon and voted 18-1 against accepting the three per cent pay increase.
The dispute has been ongoing since October with the latest pay offer tabled by Newsquest bosses on Monday.
Father of the NUJ chapel Tony Kelly said: "We will be telling management and see if, hopefully, talks continue.
"We're hoping they're going to come back with another offer.
"They have said there's no more money in the pot."
In a separate dispute NUJ members at The Press called off proposed industrial action over pensions and multimedia working.
Strike action was scheduled to take place two weeks ago but these particular issues have since been resolved.
Tony added: "We called off the action last week after gaining some concessions on new technology."
The NUJ said there was anger among staff that they had to record video footage and upload it to the paper's website without adequate remuneration or training.
There were also concerns around changes to the proposed pension scheme with staff facing a possible hike in contributions in order to keep the same benefits.
