Job Description

The Wiltshire Times is looking for junior reporters to join the team working out of Trowbridge, Wiltshire’s county town.

If you’ve got your NCTJ preliminary exams and want to progress, then there’s no better place – a lively news area, a newsroom full of colleagues all on the same journey, an outstanding record of supporting people so they pass their NQJ first time and a newspaper to learn your craft on which has served the area for hundreds of years and has adapted to provide modern multi-media news coverage.

We need people with a real passion for telling stories and getting under the skin of a community. They'll need to be self-motivated, innovative and keen to make their mark in journalism – we offer the chance to do that with an individual news patch where you are responsible for covering everything that happens, including stories that frequently make the national press.

There’s also no shortage of opportunities to try your hand at feature-writing, food/theatre/music reviewing and covering big name events, from international music festivals to Prime Ministerial visits, while you develop solid skills in news writing, court and council reporting and interviewing.

We expect our reporters to hunt down copy and pictures, turn round stories fast for the web and print, take pictures and video when they’re needed and use social media to promote them online. We want people who will see the story behind the press release, so our award-winning papers, part of the Newsquest group, keep the valued reputation they’ve built up over 163 years being read by the people of Wiltshire.

We need someone with NCTJ preliminary exams and a full, clean driving licence. In return we offer a competitive salary, 25 days holiday plus Bank Holidays, a pension package and an area which offers plenty to do with your leisure time and places to live that won’t cost you the earth.
