Job Description

• JOB TITLE: NEWS EDITOR & SUB EDITOR

• RESPONSIBLE TO: EDITOR-IN -CHIEF

MAIN OBJECTIVES:

• To act as a leader of the editorial team, managing the stories coming in for each magazine and the reporters work/load

• Keep the editorial team in order, including managing absence from the office and workflow

• Ensure grammar and spelling is checked on all editorial

• Proof read every page

• Manage the advertorials going into every magazine

• In the absence of reporter, ensure adequate cover is in place to keep magazines’ full of stories

• Oversee the incoming emails to ensure all stories are covered

• Keep on top of the news to ensure topical news coverage

• Sub all editorial and give feedback to writers

• Edit images to ensure high quality in print and ensure the source originality of the accompanying picture for story (copyright issues)

• Maintain strong relationships with columnists and ensure their deadlines are appropriately managed

• Supervise the office in the absence of the Editor & Office Manager

• Act as a buffer between editorial, admin and design

• Manage printers where necessary to ensure mags are printed on time/ correctly
• Adhere to house style and adapt for advertorials

• Assist design with proofing of editorial content

• Maintain strong relationship with the Editor both for office management and editorial workflow

• Strive to maintain a high quality of finish for the magazines and where possible improve

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Calm under pressure

• Approachable

• Good news judgement

• Able to work to deadlines

• Strong work ethic as deadlines are tight and workload is great

• Reactive to hard and immediate news and proactive in difficult situations

• Flexible with time to ensure deadlines are met and to respond to the situation in the office

• Good command of English grammar, spelling and comprehension

• Good telephone manner

• Able to juggle- multiple tasks

• In Design and Photoshop experience preferred
