The Oxford Mail is recruiting for an exceptional group news editor to lead our three-strong newsdesk team serving a successful regional daily, nine weekly titles and websites.
Our current group news editor is moving on after four years to take up an exciting editorship role in magazines.
Her successor will need to be an experienced senior with regional newsdesk experience, who is skilled at juggling the demands of breaking news for print and the web.
The right candidate will play a crucial role in helping to shape the news agenda and drive our campaigns. They will have the ability to get the best out of our talented 14-strong reporting and photographic team, inspiring them to work to high editorial standards.
Named Newsquest’s news brand of the year, the Oxford Mail is a six-day-a-week title with a campaigning ethos and a reputation for holding authority to account. We have specialists covering politics, crime, education, court, health and the environment, as well as reporters covering patches. The Mail is read by more than 74,000 people in print and online each day.
Our website is one of the fastest growing in the country. Latest ABC figures show it had a 38.8% YOY increase in audience growth – the fourth best in the UK. Its strength is in always being first, fast and accurate with breaking news – not being filled with clickbait.
